Blackest Night

Description

Blackest Night (by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis) still proves the ideal introduction to Green Lantern Corps.

The story’s dark themes and content are tempered by the selective use of humor. Iconic heroes and villains get recruited to fight against the corpses rising as Black Lanterns. Geoff Johns spends a great deal of time developing the backstory for William Hand’s Black Hand, incorporating prose throughout the series, that tells of his grim past. This enriches the story’s moodiness and amps up the character’s fright factor.

Throughout the decades, death has plagued the DC Universe and taken the lives of heroes and villains alike. But to what end? As the War between the different colored Lantern Corps rages on, the prophecy of the Blackest Night descends and it’s up to Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps to lead DC’s greatest champions in a battle to save the Universe from an army of undead Black Lanterns made up of fallen Green Lanterns and DC’s deceased heroes and villains.
